Are you a carer?
If you look after someone who couldn’t manage without your help — whether they are a relative, friend, or neighbour — you are a carer. We recognise the vital role you play and want to make sure you get the support you need.
Our Carers’ Offer
As a patient at our surgery, you can access the following support if you are an informal carer.
Carer Registration
- We will record your carer status on your medical record so our team can consider your needs during appointments.
- You’ll receive relevant information, advice, and updates about local carer support services.
Carer Health Checks
- You are entitled to an annual health check to help you look after your own wellbeing.
- We can provide flu vaccinations for eligible carers. (carers in receipt of carer's allowance or main carer of an older or disabled person)
Priority Appointments
- We will try to be as flexible as possible with appointment times to fit around caring responsibilities (subject to availability).
Support and Signposting
- We can connect you with local organisations such as Carers Support West Sussex for emotional support, wellbeing support, benefits advice, and respite opportunities.
- You are eligible for a one off appointment with our Social Prescribing Team who can also offer emotional support, benefits advice and the time for you to feel heard.
Emergency Planning
- Help creating a “Carer Emergency Plan” so that the person you care for is supported if you become unwell or unavailable.
How to Register as a Carer
Complete our Carer Registration Form or pick up a form from reception. You can also let us know the next time you are in the surgery and ask to be added to the Carers Register.

Carers Trust
Carers Trust is a major charity for, with and about carers. They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Their vision is that unpaid carers count and can access the help they need to live their lives.
